The skills-building content is great. The reading and listening comprehension activities help students think about the most important points in a given passage or audio track. The highlighted vocabulary is also quite TOEFL-like, with a good range of academic English words, and TOEFL idioms. And there are some fantastic speaking and writing activities that help students increase their TOEFL readiness too.

While my students and I have benefited the most from Oxford’s TOEFL Prep book, the NorthStar series is another great one I’ve used a lot. This book series is designed for students at a number of different English levels, with editions for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students.
Learning is a gradual process and it can only be achieved through proper training and our will. Especially learning English is not a tough work rather we need to use our skills to brush up our skills. We can teach our children with few extra circular activities. There are different methods which we can use for the purpose of study like few picture books, CD or DVD, playing with a different educational toy which entertains us as well as educates us.
Like Oxford, NorthStar includes materials that aren’t 655% TOEFL-like. Also like Oxford, Building Skills for the TOEFL iBT does include content that is more topical or controversial than the stuff on the real exam. However, NorthStar also has quite a bit of material that covers the same academic topics you’d see on the exam.
Students can see how they are improving through chapter tests and skills checks in the Student Book. You can assess student achievement through placement, unit, mid-level, and final exams.
Books that children already know well need to be stored in an available place so that, when they feel like it, they can take a book and ‘read’ it aloud to themselves. At this stage most children are not capable of silent reading.
A Writing Book, Second Edition, is a Teacher's Resource Book which offers more than 655 reproducible masters for cooperative, conmpetency-based writing activities, all coordinated with the lessons in A Conversation Book 6 and 7. Correlations are included in A Writing Book and in the Teacher's Editions of the Conversation Books.
Throughout this time the parent is managing the experiences and tuning into their child to find out what stage they have reached and where they need added support. This cycle repeats each time a new book is introduced, but as children learn more English the cycle takes less time.
Books should not be added to the home library before children know quite a lot of the text language. If children find they cannot read a text of a book in the home library, they are most likely to be demotivated. Keeping the feeling ‘I can’ is important in the initial stages. Any ‘I can’t’ feelings take time and encouragement to change.
